Account and membership
What does membership cost?
Membership of NOBILITH is free of charge. Costs arise only for a purchase, a sale or a service; they are described on the «Fees» page.
Why do I need to have my identity document checked?
When trading high-value gemstones NOBILITH must know who it is dealing with – to prevent misuse and to meet legal due-diligence duties. The check is done in the NOBILITH app via the chip of your identity document and a selfie; documents without a chip are checked manually by NOBILITH.
How do I sign in?
With your email address, your password and a six-digit code from your authenticator app (two-factor sign-in). The code is not sent by email.
What happens to my data?
NOBILITH processes your data only for the purposes named in the privacy policy and discloses it only to the recipients named there. In the Private Market and at auction the other party never sees your name.
Purchase, Vault and delivery
Where is my gemstone after the purchase?
It stays under seal with an external custodian in the bonded warehouse; NOBILITH does not hold gemstones itself. In the Vault you can see your gemstones, their status and the documents at any time.
When does the gemstone become mine?
Ownership does not pass by payment alone but only after payment has been received and the custodian has confirmed the transfer. The gemstone then appears in your Vault.
Do I have to pay VAT?
As long as the gemstone remains in the bonded warehouse, no Swiss import tax is due. If you have it delivered within Switzerland, import tax becomes due on release; for delivery abroad the rules of the destination country apply.
Can I have my gemstone delivered?
Yes. In the Vault you request delivery and enter the delivery address. Delivery is made only to the account holder; delivery, insurance, customs and tax costs are quoted to you in advance.
Private Market
Can I withdraw my listing?
Yes, in the Vault with «Withdraw listing», as long as no purchase is in progress. Open offers are declined. The gemstone stays in your Vault and can be listed again later. Once a buyer has paid for an accepted offer or initiated payment, the sale is binding.
Do I remain anonymous in the Private Market?
Yes. Buyer and seller never see each other – neither in listings nor in offers or counter-offers. Only the gemstone and its attributes are visible.
Who pays the Private Market fee?
The seller: 3 % of the price including Swiss VAT, deducted from the proceeds. The buyer pays no additional fee. Example: sale at CHF 14,000 – fee CHF 420, payout CHF 13,580.
How does the handover work?
The gemstone stays in the bonded warehouse. After payment the custodian transfers it to the buyer; it then appears in the buyer's Vault. No physical transport is needed.
Which gemstones can I sell?
Any gemstone you own that is held under seal in the bonded warehouse – whether you bought it directly, at auction or in the Private Market. You set the price and type of offer yourself; your listing is visible immediately. Gemstones kept at home or outside custody cannot be traded.
Can I buy a gemstone that is not listed?
Yes, if the owner has agreed that the gemstone may be found. Under «Find gemstones» you make an offer from CHF 1,000. The owner may accept, decline or counter – each side has 72 hours, for at most six rounds. On agreement the purchase is created.
Will my gemstone be shown without my knowledge?
No. After every purchase the Vault asks whether the gemstone may be found in the Private Market. Without your yes it remains invisible; you can change your answer at any time. Listings are never created automatically either.
Auctions
How do I take part in an auction?
You need a confirmed account and an auction admission, which you apply for in your account. The source of funds is checked and a bidding limit is set. Registration for a specific auction must be made no later than 72 hours before it starts.
Is a bid binding?
Yes. A bid placed is binding and may not exceed your bidding limit including the buyer's premium.
What does a winning bid cost?
The hammer price and any buyer's premium; both are shown for each auction before you take part. As long as the gemstone remains in the bonded warehouse, the hammer price is exclusive of Swiss VAT.
What happens after a winning bid?
At the end of the auction the amount is collected. If collection fails, you receive an invoice with a payment period of five bank business days. After payment the gemstone is transferred to you in the bonded warehouse.
Who am I buying from at an auction?
The symbol on the lot tells you: a gold hexagon with the NOBILITH mark means NOBILITH sells the gemstone in its own name. The outline of a cut gemstone means a consignor is having it auctioned through NOBILITH; the contract of sale is then concluded between you and the consignor, with NOBILITH acting as intermediary. Nothing changes for you regarding bids, payment, custody and delivery.
What do the symbols in the catalogue mean?
Every lot carries one of two symbols. Gold hexagon: property of NOBILITH. Gemstone outline: consigned, NOBILITH acts as intermediary. Tap the symbol or hover over it to see the short explanation. The full legend is in the auction terms (T&C, section 8).
How is the consignor commission charged?
10% of the hammer price, deducted from the proceeds. With domicile or registered office in Switzerland or Liechtenstein, Swiss VAT of 8.1% is included; with confirmed domicile abroad it is charged without Swiss VAT. For a hammer price of CHF 100,000 you receive CHF 90,000 in both cases.
Can I consign gemstones to an auction?
Yes, as an auction partner. After partner registration NOBILITH reviews your details and documents. On a successful sale NOBILITH receives 10 % of the hammer price including Swiss VAT; no commission without a sale. Consigned gemstones are sold only through the auction.
Concierge and Private Search
What is Private Search?
NOBILITH searches international sellers for a gemstone that matches your brief. The initial consultation is free. The search deposit of CHF 500 becomes due once we accept your search mandate; it is credited against the purchase.
What happens once a gemstone has been found?
You receive an e-mail and see the gemstone in your client area with images, videos, laboratory report and price. It is reserved for you for 5 days. If you order, you pay 30% down; we purchase it and bring it, insured, to the Swiss bonded warehouse. After arrival you pay the remainder within 10 days and the gemstone is yours. You then choose: keep it in the bonded warehouse or have it delivered (Switzerland or abroad).
What happens if I do not pay the remainder?
The down payment is then forfeited and the gemstone remains with NOBILITH. If you do not make the down payment, the order lapses at no further cost.
How do I arrange a consultation?
After your request you choose a free slot in your account: Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 11:30 and 13:00 and 17:30 (Zurich time), by video or phone. For video you receive a personal link.
General
Can I search for gemstones by origin?
Yes. In the collection, the Private Market and the gemstone search you first choose the gemstone type and then the origin – for example sapphire from Sri Lanka, ruby from Mozambique or Myanmar (Burma), and emerald from Colombia. Only origins with available gemstones are shown. The search also finds common trade names such as «Ceylon» or «Burma». It is based on the origin stated in the laboratory report.
How do I contact NOBILITH?
