Clarity
Clarity describes a stone’s inclusions and surface features. Colourless and coloured diamonds use a fixed scale from FL (flawless) to I3. For coloured gemstones, clarity is judged relative to the species: an emerald with a visible «jardin» is normal, an aquamarine with visible inclusions is not. This is why laboratories distinguish clarity types and describe whether a stone is eye clean or slightly to heavily included.
