Glossary
Botswana
Botswana is among the world’s most important diamond producers by value. The large Orapa and Jwaneng mines were developed from the late 1960s; diamonds have since been a mainstay of the country’s economy.
Stones
Botswana mainly yields colourless diamonds of all sizes, including very large rough stones time and again.
Trade
Part of the rough is sorted and sold in the country. For the origin of an individual polished diamond, supply-chain records are decisive, as it usually cannot be determined in the laboratory.
